I have been one of the local Superior chiropractors for a few years now… and I’ve heard it over and over and over…, so many people are predominantly healthy, yet have no idea why they still get sick or have bouts of pain. If they knew what I knew – it is that there are five pillars of health. And I want to share these five pillars with you right now. But first, how many pillars do you think a typical person carries out on average?

Two.

That’s right, a measly two pillars to health. That’s not enough pillars to hold a teepee, let alone help an individual lead a full and healthy life.

The healthy people you see walking around; you know, the ones that go on hikes and walk their dogs and avoid fast food joints – they’re clocking in at about three or four pillars of health. This isn’t bad. Just to put things in perspective, if you’re doing four out of five pillars then I’d grant you a badge that says “80% health.” After all, four pillars are enough to keep a dwelling stable.

But what about achieving a badge of “100% health;” isn’t that your goal? In which case, you’d need to check off all five pillars.

Why skimp on your greatest asset: no, it’s not your flat screen television or your car – it’s your health. Practice members who visit one of the local Superior chiropractors at Apex Chiropractic understand where true health comes from. You better believe we make sure they have their priorities, spines – and pillars – straight. You may not be in the area to visit the only Torque Release Chiropractor the 80027 has to offer, so I’m here to get you up to speed – wherever you are.

The 5 Pillars of Health:

1. Exercise

Depending on your age you should be getting at least 20 minutes of cardio exercise 5 days a week. I’m not saying you need to get out there and do cross-fit 8 days a week. Humans have 2 feet and we were meant to walk. If you want to start by walking 20 minutes a day that is a great place to start! Many people are motivated by setting goals and seeing results. If you’re a “gold star” personality, then consider purchasing a Fitbit and try to achieve 10,000 steps per day.

2. Sleep

Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. What’s the best sleeping position? As an expert in spines, you’re asking the right guy! You should be sleeping on your back, or on your side with a pillow in between your knees and a pillow that keeps your head level with your spine. No stomach sleeping!

3. Proper Mental Attitude

I cannot stress the importance of this one enough. Negative attitudes and a negative outlook on life are literally killing people. You need to do your best to keep a positive outlook on life on a day-to-day basis. Yes, stuff happens and it is OK to get sad, depressed, or have anxiety in certain situations. These feelings are normal; it’s even healthy to have these emotions every now and then. But on most days, you must maintain a happy outlook on life. Let me give you an example: two 12-year old boys are diagnosed with life-threatening cancer.

The doctor tells them they have two weeks to live. One of the boys gets very sad and discouraged and dies in two weeks. The other boy says, “I am way too young for this and there is no way I am going to let this cancer beat me!” He rises above it and is still living to this day cancer-free. The only difference? They’re the mental attitude when confronted with this extremely challenging disease.

4. Eating Healthy

I am not going to get into what you should or shouldn’t eat because most people have a good idea of that already. If you need help in this area, there are millions of trained professionals out there. One question I do want to ask you is if the nerves going to your stomach and intestines are not working the correct way (have pressure on them) how do you think you might be digesting your food? Maybe you are taking top-of-the-line supplements and buying all-natural organic food from Whole Foods or Alfalfas. What if I told you that you’re wasting your money because your body is not capable of absorbing the nutrients the right way due to an improperly functioning nervous system? Think about it…

5. 100% Functioning Nervous System

This is the pillar that even the healthiest people are lacking. Less than 3% of people on the planet are under Principled Chiropractic care. The brain and the nervous system control and coordinate all organs, structures, and functions of the human body. It doesn’t matter how well you eat or how much you exercise if your nervous system has any type of interference your body will not be functioning at 100%. If the nerves going to you or your child’s heart or lungs were not working properly when would you want to find out; now – or when it’s too late?
